Estimate£2,000 - £4,000Winning Bid£5,800StatusCLOSED Condition ReportThis condition report will be an extensive report covering all aspects of the chest on stand, detailing faults, but this does not detract from what is a very good piece of furniture, of very good colour. Losses and repairs to the edge cross banding within which there are several pieces missing and chips to the edges which are missing, there are numerous splits throughout as one might expect and some unsightly areas to the back of the top which have a rough finish. The drawer fronts have been plugged just to the side of the current handles, indicating they have been replaced and slightly moved, there are some flecks of crossbanding veneer missing the drawer fronts and some splits to the veneers throughout, the locks have been replaced, as have the escutcheons. The cross stretcher has a small area of damage and the legs, bunn feet and stretcher are later replacements. It has wooden castors in metal frames, there are tiny signs of old woodworm to the stretcher and supports. There is a groove cut above the base drawer which is rather unsightly, missing a small section of moulding to the front of here, and overall there is general wear throughout. Some old repairs to the return mouldings where the upper section meets the base, there are also some replaced veneers to the sides and some splits to the drawer front mouldings and the border backs have signs of old woodworm and of course the piece does have some older repairs.
