Estimate£400 - £600Winning Bid£4,900StatusCLOSED Condition ReportHeavy wear, scratches, impact marks throughout. There are no clips present, it is a sectional table, both ends are extending, the D ends have swivel clips, supports are original, no visible worm, but this is a huge table so it is possible that we might have missed it, there are some splits, there are no castors currently, it is impossible to say if there were any originally. Differentiations in colour, water marks, stain marks, scratches, scuffs, gouges, all heavy wear commensurate with age and use, expect all signs of usual ageing wear and tear with this type of furniture. One leaf with an opening split as well. There are seven parts/sections including the D-ends, the majority of the ends are clearly mahogany, but one of the central leaves has much more open grain which cold possibly be a different wood, or a heavily sanded down finish, see picture. Structurally sound, appears to be original, the extending Rs which support the D ends have been damaged with splits, damage and losses, there are no tale forks. The table was housed in a gentleman's club which opened in the Victorian times and was believed by the members to have been specifically commissioned for that club. While the edges of the leaf are similar to mahogany, the majority has a much more open and wide grain, so it is very possible that it is a different timber. There is no specific mechanism to close the table, they are all separate pieces of timber, it is certainly not a concertina type. Height 76.5cm.
