Footnote: Purchased from Sydney House Antiques in Peterborough, 1988. The drawer is stamped 'Maple & Co Ld' and signed by L View details Estimate£3,000 - £5,000Winning Bid£2,600StatusCLOSED Condition ReportOverall, the desk has been exceptionally well kept, it has had a cover over it since purchased in 1988 to protect the colour, which remains very good, strong and even throughout. The only main issue to mention is the slide has split towards the back, which has ripped through the leather. There are a couple of tiny sections missing to the shaped gallery at each front portion, but these really are millimetres of beading that are missing. Apart from this, it really is a stunning example. Kneehole height 61.5cm. Lot 1129 A good Regency satinwood and painted bookcase on cupboard, the moulded pediment above two glazed doors, each centred with an oval portrait medallion above a base with painted top centred with a Classical roundel, two swag adorned drawers and two cupboard doors, both set with large oval panels painted with Classical scenes and raised on turned gilt feet, height 184, width 99cm, depth 35cm. Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection. View details Estimate£1,000 - £1,500Winning Bid£980StatusCLOSED Condition ReportThis piece was purchased from Spadesbourne Antiques in 1975 and prior to purchase, it has clearly had some restoration work, noticeably to the gilding throughout, the applied mouldings to the glazed doors. It now has later simple glass shelves to the interior. The vertical gilt return bar which sits between the two cupboard doors is a replacement. General surface scratches, however overall the piece remains in good condition and is of a good colour, bar some old repairs and re-gilding. Lot 1130 A fine late Victorian satinwood painted display cabinet with moulded cornice, serpentine side glazed doors, flat fronted central drawers above four well painted panelled doors raised on square section tapering legs to spade feet and the interior set with three shelves, with Waring and Gillow lto the reverse of the cabinet, height 203cm, width 150cm, depth 42cm. Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection. View details Estimate£2,000 - £3,000Winning Bid£4,900StatusCLOSED Condition ReportA fine example, there is one tiny section of moulding missing to one of the upright columns, some crazing to the painted decoration and some very small sections of lifting, but the piece has been kept out of direct sunlight and has been well looked after. Lot 1131 A good pair of Victorian inlaid satinwood, burr walnut and amboyna pier cabinets with three-quarter gilt brass galleries and above two adjustable shelves enclosing mirror backs, flanked by inlaid and turned corner pilasters, on plinth bases, height 105cm, width 81.5cm, depth 36.5cm. View details Estimate£1,000 - £1,500Winning Bid£2,500StatusCLOSED Condition ReportOne with sun fading to the front and both with some spotting and tarnishing to the mirror backs. The turned corner pilasters with some knocks and losses. Light age wear here and there but overall good. Lot 1132 MAPLE & CO; a lady's cylinder topped writing desk, the three-quarter brass gallery above urn and scroll inlaid cylinder activated by the lower pull-out drawer and revealing an interior of compartments and three drawers with inlaid hinged surface enclosing a tooled brown leather interior and raised on square section tapering legs united by an undertier and raised on spade feet, stamped to drawer, height 91cm, width 75cm, depth 50cm. Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection. View details Estimate£500 - £800Winning Bid£780StatusCLOSED Condition ReportThe action is slightly stiff with the cylinder and the drawer and there is a vertical scratch to the cylinder, where presumably something is catching through the action. The brass gallery is lifting slightly in parts, but this is an easy fix. Light general surface scratches, a 5cm section of ebony stringing missing to the undertier. Some slight lifting of the inlaid stringing in parts, with a further 3cm section missing to the upper part of a leg, with a couple of possible old repairs to the stringing. One small bruise to the side, but overall of good colour. This is our advice only - the pattern is still visible beneath the scratch, it appears to mostly be a veneer loss. We cannot say if this will be invisible when attended to by a professional restorer, the piece will be monitered during auction viewing. Lot 1133 An Edwardian painted satinwood Sheraton Revival side cabinet, the top decorated with an oval panel of three cherubs in a boat, within a floral surround, above two glazed doors enclosing shelves, on tapered square legs, height 88cm, width 136cm, depth 43cm. Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection. View details Estimate£800 - £1,200Winning Bid£1,050StatusCLOSED Condition ReportThe suite was purchased in the late 1990s from The Graham Gallery, when it was sold as being by Hille. View details Estimate£300 - £500Winning Bid£340StatusCLOSED Condition ReportSome light rubbing to the gilding in parts, but both retain a very good colour and are of very solid construction. Just light general surface wear. Lot 1137 An Edwardian satinwood and painted bergère caned tub chair with single caned back centred with an oval medallion, double caned arms with turned uprights and raised on square section tapering legs to spade feet. Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection. View details Estimate£50 - £80Winning Bid£190StatusCLOSED Condition ReportThe arms are double caned and there is damage to both of these. The back has clearly been re-caned and it is probable that this originally was also double backed. You can see the marks beneath the canework on the frame, which is rather untidy. General surface rubbing to the arms. The seat is torn and giving, therefore this would require complete restoration of the caning. Lot 1138 A pair of Edwardian stained beech and painted elbow chairs with turned top rail above down swept arms, bergère caned seat and turned tapering legs united by stretchers, height 80cm. Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection. View details Estimate£50 - £80Winning Bid£270StatusCLOSED Condition ReportBoth are simulated beech intended to look like satinwood. On one of the chairs, the bergère caning has gone completely, on the second chair it is starting to give. Both are of relatively sound construction, have general surface wear to the arms, with some of the paint now lost through to rubbing. General surface marks throughout. Lot 1139 An Edwardian satinwood oval occasional table with quarter veneered top with shallow raised gallery above square section slightly outswept supports united by a shaped stretcher, height 75cm, length 75cm, depth 48cm. Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection. View details Estimate£80 - £120Winning Bid£50StatusCLOSED Condition ReportQuite a few scuffs and scrapes to the piece, also some of the raised gallery is easing away in parts, causing splits to the veneer. Beneath this to the frieze, there is a consistent splitting all around the edge, which is rather unsightly. General surface wear and tear throughout. Lot 1140 A Sheraton Revival painted satinwood butterfly top Pembroke table, the quarter veneered top decorated in the centre with an oval scene of Europa and the bull, within a border of flowers and foliate motifs against a green ground, with single frieze drawer, on tapered square legs, height 71.5cm, width 89cm, depth with flaps up 95cm. View details Estimate£200 - £300Winning Bid£860StatusCLOSED Condition ReportThe top with many light scratches to the varnish, general age wear and some knocks and wear at the edge. The top has bowed a little at one of the curved ends and this has caused a line in the veneer to crease running along the length. The top also with a few light watermarks. The white handles to the drawer do not match and they are probably not original. General wear and scuffs to the legs. Lot 1141 A pair of mid 20th century satinwood circular wine tables, the dished tops with carved pie crust borders, on cluster column and gadrooned supports, on tripod bases, height 61cm, diameter 31cm. Lot 1142 An Edwardian painted satinwood freestanding corner display cabinet, with broken swan neck pediment above an astragal glazed door enclosing shelves above a panelled door, decorated throughout with floral bands and harebell swags, the door additionally painted with musical instruments, on tapered square legs, height 204cm, width 66cm. View details Estimate£200 - £300Winning Bid£900StatusCLOSED Condition ReportA small section of veneer lacking to the side panel near to the escutcheon of the panelled door. Knocks to the protruding edge between the glazed door and the panelled door. Other light age wear here and there, but despite the faults, overall appearance is good. Lot 1142A An Edwardian Sheraton revival inlaid satinwood dressing table mirror, the oval mirror with a bevelled plate on a box base with two drawers, height 104cm, width 70cm, depth 25cm Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection. Provenance: From a private Worcestershire collection. View details Estimate£200 - £300Winning Bid£420StatusCLOSED Condition ReportA couple of surface scratches but of good colour.
