The action runs smoothly up and down on the ratchet. The base and main body are lacquered, they have not been polished, in the vendor's lifetime the item has certainly not had any re-lacquering, the finish would also indiciate that there has not been any re-lacquering, however, we are unable to know if this was done many decades ago.
