Estimate£1,000 - £1,500StatusUnsold Condition ReportThis really is an exquisite casket of incredible detail and the areas of damage are pretty much kept to the reticulated sections which is almost lace work. The lid: just above the left hand handle there is a split and small area of damage to the reticulation, also a tiny bit of lost carving to the spandrel. Front of casket: a tiny 2mm x 2mm loss to the right hand side of the escutcheon, tow larger areas of loss to the left hand side. Bottom right also 1mm x 1mm loss. Left hand side as you look at the box: small areas of loss to the side of the lid section. Main side panel: two areas of loss to the reticulation. One being a larger section missing and split lower left and two small holes upper left. Back of the casket: a crack, small losses and impressed section to the reticulation upper left. A 3mm x 4mm loss to the upper right and a 5mm x 4mm lower left. Other side panel: 1mm x 1mm loss to the side of the lid. Beneath this to the main section it is slightly stained going through the middle and there are three areas of loss to the reticulation, noticeably to the lower left but also a split and small section upper right and a 3mm x 2mm section upper left. The other note to make is that the box is slightly coming away at the joints so this would be a fairly easy fix. The hinges are also hallmarked for silver and the original key is present with a charming tag inscribed 'Workbox'. It has come from a private client in Cheshire and has been in their family for many years and has not been offered on the market before. We are not weighing ivory under any circumstance.
