(D) Provenance: Purchased by the family of the vendor from Dr. Arnold Renshaw circa 1970. Estimate£200 - £400Winning Bid£3,400StatusCLOSED Condition ReportThis lot qualifies for Artist Resale Rights. For further information, please visit http://www.dacs.org.uk or http://artistscollectingsociety.org The whole piece is very dirty, has a yellow/brown stained hue throughout, it is also covered in hundreds of small brown dots of paint or foxing throughout, some craquelure and also some detritus stuck to the canvas. If there had been any issues under UV they would have been reported. Unlikely to have been cleaned due to the presence of the brown spotting over the painting. Frame appears contemporary, with the painting, whether original difficult to say. The frame is quite worn, with numerous splits, some chips and losses etc. There are white dabs of paint to the upper right of the picture which look like paint loss from a distance but are in fact paint. There are further small dots of paint all around the picture, there is a minuscule area of paint loss to the lower centre on the beach section, some further very small areas to lower left to the second foremost clifftop and face, there is an indent to the upper left where the painting appears to have been under some weight, however this is a relatively minor aspect. There are some sporadic pock marks, particularly to the sky section of the painting, but again these are minor in the grand scheme of the image.
