This chest was made by William Henry Perkin(s) of Buxton, Derbyshire, where he worked as marble inlayer. He married Laura Blanche Stevenson in 1879 and it is believed the chest was made around that time. In 1896 William re-enlisted with the Sherwood Foresters and sadly in June 1900 Sergeant Perkin was killed at Rhenoster, South Africa, during the Boer War.
