Description:
FRANK EGERTON; a modern pine cabinet with twenty two carved wooden animals/figures, inscribed 'Toys', overall height 74cm, width 83cm, depth 26cm. PLEASE NOTE: Frank Egerton studied at Manchester Regional College of Art and also obtained a National Diploma of Desgin in Silversmithing and Ceramics, he lectured in several colleges in the North West of England before giving up teaching in the mid 1970s to design and make toys on a semi-mass produced basis. By 1980 he had decided to go it alone and concentrate on individual hand made works. In the foreword to his solo exhibition at the Scottish Gallery 1996 Frank Egerton thus: "My work has no higher pretention than to pleasure and amuse, I incorporate movement to enhance certain ideas rather than self-consciously setting out to make automata. I am interested in making pieces that are well made and pleasing to both eye and hand, but have no intellectual pretensions, I feel that they have more to do with the fairground than a museum or gallery".
